New Correlated Virtual and Constructive Terrain Databases Released

Pittsburgh, PA - TerraSim, Inc. and Calytrix Technologies are pleased to announce the release of two new database formats for "Sample Desert Village", available for free download on the Calytrix website. Produced by TerraSim's TerraTools® 3.8, these additions include a map file for eSIM Games' Steel Beasts Professional and an OpenSceneGraph database in both .osg and .ive formats.

Downloads are available via registration at the Calytrix website. In addition to the two new formats, eight existing databases include VBS2, OpenFlight (16.0), JCATS (7.1.5 and higher), JSAF (CTDB 8), OneSAF (OTF Format 6 and 7), OneSAF Testbed (OTF) (CTDB 7), and MÄK VR-Forces (GDB). These samples give LVC Game users a full set of correlated terrain databases to use as a testbed for each of their runtime applications.

Demonstrations of real-time interaction between Steel Beasts Professional and JFCOM's JSAF runtime environment, interconnected via the Calytrix LVC Game interface and using new correlated terrains produced by TerraSim's TerraTools®, generated significant interest at I/ITSEC in December of 2009. Read more about that demonstration here. The newly released OpenSceneGraph database supports MÄK VR-Vantage and compliments the previously available GDB dataset for MÄK VR-Forces.

TerraTools 3.8 is the latest release of TerraSim's terrain database construction product. It includes automated processes for exporting geospatially correlated databases to a variety of virtual and constructive systems, including OneSAF OTF and Virtual Battlespace 2. New OmniWizard support for both formats automatically builds export-ready database projects. In addition, improvements to existing virtual and constructive export processes allow users to fully customize databases with Urban Details™ processing.
