Network Engineer - Immediate Start - Defence
Calytrix Technologies is an Australian company specialising in the delivery of software, systems and services to the Australian and international defence community. As the largest dedicated Australian Defence simulation and training company, Calytrix maintains offices in Perth, Canberra and the USA. Our simulation services include the integration of tactical 3D games, the development of simulation frameworks and military training exercise support.
Calytrix is seeking a mid-level dynamic Network Engineer to join our team. Based in Canberra, you will be working closely with our team of technical and simulation engineers in the ADF’s Joint Combined Training Capability (JCTC). This cutting edge organisation is responsible for enhancing ADF force preparedness and bilateral high-end training by supporting Mission Rehearsal Exercises (MREs) and major joint and combined exercises through the development and delivery of instrumented Live, Virtual and Constructive (LVC) training effects delivered through an extensive but developing network.
You will be part of our experienced network team and will be responsible for developing, rolling out and maintaining network services in support of major Defence training activities. The position offers exposure to a range of cutting edge simulation and training support systems and the ideal candidate will need to be able to demonstrate an ability to work without close technical supervision.
Working with the network team this role will be responsible for:
- Network design, development and roll out
- Review, testing and integration of network services
- Delivery of technical support to the JCTC, sometimes in the field
The ideal candidate will have:
- A current drivers licence
- The ability to travel including regional, overseas and field travel
- CCNP+ or commensurate skills
- Proven 10+ years' experience in the networking industry
- Extensive knowledge in CM practice/procedures
- Advanced knowledge in Cisco Technologies (Routing/Switching, Unified Comms, or Security)
- A current Defence security clearance of NV2 (TOP SECRET), or higher.
The following experience is also desirable:
- Experience with various Milspec Encryption Systems
- Experience in Project Management/Project Management principles
- Knowledge of ICT Cabling standards
- Knowledge of NMS
- Experience in Cisco UC/Security
- Experience in VTC
- Defence background as a contractor, public servant or in uniform
- Knowledge of Linux/Unix OS
- Knowledge of Defence Telecomms
- Knowledge of RF Bearers (Satellite/Long range wireless/Milspec radios)
- Cisco background.

Systems Administrator

Calytrix is seeking an experienced and dynamic Systems Administrator to join our team. Based in Canberra, you will be working closely with our team of network and simulation engineers in the ADF’s Joint Combined Training Capability (JCTC). This cutting edge organisation is responsible for enhancing ADF force preparedness and bilateral high-end training by supporting Mission Rehearsal Exercises (MREs) and major joint and combined exercises through the development and delivery of instrumented Live, Virtual and Constructive (LVC) training effects delivered through an extensive network and supported by numerous MIS systems.
You will be part of our experienced MIS team and will be responsible for implementing, integrating, supporting and delivering hardware, and software solutions within the Defence Training and Experimentation Network (DTEN) environment, or while deployed to field locations. The position offers exposure to a range of cutting edge simulation and training support systems and the ideal candidate will need to be able to demonstrate an ability to work without close technical supervision.
Working with the MIS team this role will be responsible for:
- Developing, maintaining and assisting in the design of content for JCTC Internal and External websites.
- Maintenance of sites and sub-sites, maintain and manage site security, site layout structure and content
- Administering web server software on Windows and Linux servers, including software installation, configuration, patching, upgrading and testing.
- Administering IIS, SharePoint and Apache Web services on Windows and Linux servers.
- Contributing to the administration of JCTC’s web content management systems and web content publishing workflow.
- Providing client support and web systems issue resolution.
- Carrying out development and enhancements to JCTC’s web systems.
- Contributing to the strategic direction of JCTC’s web environment by identifying and initiating improvements to existing systems, and providing advice and direction on emerging technologies, industry/government standards and best practices.
- Assisting in the support of the DTEN Servers and Workstations as required.
- Developing strategies to support the enhancement of JCTC and Defence training capability.
- Deploying to support Training Exercises as required
The ideal candidate will have:
- Tertiary degree or equivalent experience in an IT related field
- Administering and maintaining Microsoft IIS, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft SQL
- Understanding of the capabilities of Microsoft SharePoint templates (site and list templates), web parts development, workflow and content management.
- Enforce standards when implementing sites, sub-sites, themes, and other features of the environment.
- Administering and maintaining Apache Tomcat or other Java application servers.
- Ability to trouble shooting complex issues within compressed timeframes.
- Ability to supply clear technical guidance under pressure situations
- Client liaison and client service experience.
- A current Defence security clearance of NV1 (SECRET), or higher.
- A current drivers’ licence
- Ability to travel including field deployments
The following experience is also desirable:
- Basic understanding of networking.
- Operating in Windows based environment (Microsoft Server 2003 and Server 2008).
- Operating in UNIX or Linux based environment (Solaris or Red Hat Linux preferred).
- UNIX and/or Linux shell scripting.
- Programming in Java/JSP and Perl.
- HTML, CSS and JavaScript development.
- Python, PHP, C and XML programming.
- Change management processes and procedures.
- Web security principles.
- Any other web scripting tools
The following attributes will also be highly considered:
- Experience dealing with Military Training Organisations.
- Ability to liaise with other areas of Defence including military and civilian personnel.
- Some knowledge of simulation technologies and their application in training.
